General Information

COMMON NAMES: Chinese Bellflower, Balloon Flower

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE China - Japan

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not Naturalised; Land, lowlands, Gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Erect herb to 50cm. LEAVES lower whorled, upper alternate; oval, to 7cm, with sharp teeth, tip sharp, without hairs. FLOWERS terminal, 1-few, wide bell-like, with triangular lobes; 5cmØ; blue, white, or pink; buds balloon-like. Several cultivars, including dwarf plants.
