KEY FEATURES: A thick-bodied wasp, to 13mmBL. WINGS clear with darkened panel centre-front. BODY black and orange with white spots on thorax, and narrow white bands and bars on hind-abdomen.

IDENTIFICATION: Large ichneumon to 13mmBL. HEAD black, with 4 white marks on face; antennae 7mm, orange. THORAX topside black with white spot between hindwings. WINGS smoky with dark panel midfront of forewing. ABDOMEN stalk black; forethird orange; hindsection black with narrow white bars or bands. LEGS 1st & 2nd small and pale orange; hindlegs large, orange with dark bands.
