General Information

COMMON NAMES: Basket Plant

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: Aeschynanthus speciosus se.Asia - Indonesia; 'Rigel' garden origin

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

KEY FEATURES: Upright to sprawling. LEAVES opposite, narrow-oval, tapering to sharp tip and narrow base. FLOWERS terminal, 2-few; corolla a long, curved and expanding tube with small terminal lobes, tube base yellow-orange and then red; tube interior yellow; lobes marked inside with dark red blotch.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Aeschynanthus speciosus whorl of 4-8 terminal leaves; and flower calyx split almost to base with tips marked red.
