COMMON NAMES: Tiny Fruitfly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE incl. Indonesia/Australia - Tuamotu; n. to Taiwan; s. to Rapa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group - widespread; N.Group - unknown; Land

KEY FEATURES: Minute fly to 2mmBL. HEAD with yellow face. WINGS clear with dark blotches, including 5 extending onto the front edge. ABDOMEN female has dark eg-laying extension. LEGS pale with dark section on thighs.

IDENTIFICATION: Minute fly to 2mmBL. HEAD with large eyes, face yellow. THORAX grey, long black bristles, and wings. WINGS clear with extensive brown blotches, with 5 blotches reach forward edge (incl. the one at the tip); fore-edge with short bristles. ABDOMEN female has black abdominal extension for egg laying. LEGS light brown with dark section on thighs.
