COMMON NAMES: Common Vinegar-fly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE circumglobal, incl. Fiji - French Polynesia; Hawai‘i

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group - common; N.Group - common; Land

KEY FEATURES: Orange fly to 2mmBL (female). FEMALE a thickset fly with only curved bristles on head and thorax; red-brown with abdomen pale beneath and pale banded topside; wing unmarked. MALE smaller, to 1.5mmBL; pale with rear 30% of abdomen black.
