General Information

COMMON NAMES: Redspotted Sandperch, Red Gubfish

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE se.Africa - Marquesas, Hawai‘i; n. to s. Japan; s. to Rarotonga

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, below 15m; on sand and rubble

KEY FEATURES: Slender cylindrical fish, to 13cmSL. Body white with two stripes of red oblong-spots. 1stD red with large basal black blotch; 2ndD clear with stripe of widely-species black spots. Pectoral base with 2 red lines. Tail clear with white specks near base.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Red 1st Dorsal with large black base blotch is distinctive.
