General Information

COMMON NAMES: Multispotted Sandperch, Redbarred Sandperch, Red-banded Grubfish

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE nw.Australia - GBR - Pitcairn; s. to New Caledonia; n. to Okinawa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, outer reef-slope, 10-30+m; over rubble or sand

KEY FEATURES: Slender cylindrical fish, to 12cmSL. Body lower 75% white with 8 narrow, red bars; upper 25% orange-red with ~8 wide darker bars alternating with the lower red bars. Dorsal with anterior large black blotch. Below Pectoral base is a red spot w/wo black centre. Tail clear with white specks near base.
