General Information

COMMON NAMES: an ichneumon wasp

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group only (Rarotonga only); Land, Lowland

KEY FEATURES: Slender was to 15mm (excl. 5mm ovipositor). Head, anterior thorax and abdomen black with yellow stripes, bands and spots; rest of thorax and legs bright red. Wings clear with dark veins. MALE smaller, to 10mmBL, face yellow.

IDENTIFICATION: Slender wasp to 15mmBL (excl. 5mm ovipositor). COLOUR red and black with yellow markings. HEAD black with yellow around the large eyes; antennae 15mm. THORAX anterodorsal black with 2 yellow stripes and posterior tip yellow; rest red with some yellow; WINGS clear with dark veins, and 2 dark anterior blotches; LEGS red. ABDOMEN dorsally black with yellow bands; waist red; hindend red; ovipositor black, 5mm long. MALE is to 10mmBL, with face yellow.
