General Information

COMMON NAMES: Dasheen Mosaic Virus

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE circumtropical and subtropical

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group - at least Rarotonga and Aitutaki (2005); Living tissue (Taro)

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; pathogen on Taro

KEY FEATURES: Causes featherlike mottling on leaves. Spread mainly by aphids, such as Aphis gossypii. Can develop on several different members of the Araceae.

SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: pathogen on Taro. Comments: Spread by aphids. There is not evidence that this virus reduces corm yield. (SPC) There is a severe form of this virus known in French Polynesia and no live plants should be imported into other countries.
