General Information

COMMON NAMES: Taro Bacilliform Virus

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE PNG - Cook Islands; n. to Micronesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: native; S.Group - at least Rarotonga and Aitutaki (2005); Living tissue (Papaya)

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; symptomless pathogen

KEY FEATURES: Usually does not casue visible symptoms. Detected when testing for other viruses. Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Planococcus citri [Pseudococcidae]. Virus not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; not transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by contact between plants. Also on Xanthosoma and Alocasia macrorrhizos.
