SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
POSITIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Food (SD 2+), (Material (Adornment)). Comments: MATERIAL: Purplish coloured wood used in cabinet making, sometimes substituting for Rosewood. Said to be of the hardness of Beech [Nothofagus spp.].
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Invasive - serious, Weed - moderate. Comments: A widespread invasive, sometimes forming very dense thickets, in the makatea forests of Atiu and Mauke, mainly a long walking tracks were the seeds ahve been spread by people. This species will become incresaing widespread and invasive in natural and disturbed environments.
