General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellow Allamanda, Common Allamanda, Golden Allamanda, Golden Trumpet; German Goldtrompete; French Monette Jaune

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tiare Rengarenga (RR), Pūpua / Pupua (AT), Puapua (MK), ‘Aramena (AK), Tiale Lenga (TS), Tiare Renga (TW); Other Polynesian - Puataunofo (SAM)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE n.S.America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Vine-like shrub to 5m. LEAVES simple, whorls 3-5, oval to 15cm, glossy green, tip sharp. FLOWER several in terminal clusters, bell-like tube to 12cm; bright yellow; to 15cmØ; petals single 5, spreading, rounded, or petals double. FRUIT rare, spherical with soft spines.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Purple Allamanda (Allamanda blanchetti) has leaves dull with short stiff hairs (vs. glossy, without hairs on upper surface). Bush Allamanda (Allamanda schottii) has smaller flowers to 7cmØ (vs. to 15cmØ).
