General Information

COMMON NAMES: Purple Allamanda

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE South America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Spreading shrub to 3m. LEAVES simple, whorls 3-4, oval to wide-oval, to 10cm, dull green with short stiff hairs. FLOWER several in terminal clusters, bell-like tube to 8cm; mauve, purplish-pink, burnt apricot; to 7cmØ; petals single 5, spreading, round. FRUIT rare, spherical with spines.
