General Information

COMMON NAMES: Calico Flower, Dutchman's-pipe, Pelican Flower; German Pfeifenblume

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mokorā [?species] (MK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil - Argentina

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Cultivated (?naturalised on Mangaia); S.Group only - uncommon; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: A climbing vine with heart-shaped leaves and large strangely shaped tubular flowers. LEAVES wide-heart-shaped to kidney-shaped, 12x15cm. FLOWERS axillary, solitary, on long stalks; green-yellow to white, with maroon veins and blotches, throat yellow; calyx base 3cm, tube bent 3cm, round-lobed limb, 10x10cm.
