COMMON NAMES: Arthropteris Fern

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Africa - Asia - Polynesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group - RR inland only, very common; N.Group absent; Land, mountains (++)

KEY FEATURES: Epiphytic fern with slender fronds. FRONDS to 25x3cm, with leaflets. LEAFLETS alternate, to 15x7mm, ~parallel sided, edges crenate; SORI exposed, near leading and trailing edges.

IDENTIFICATION: An epiphytic fern, with fronds to 25cm. ROOT slender, to 2mmØ, fronds well-spaced. FRONDS to 25x3cm; leaflets ladderlike (=pinnate). LEAFLETS (=pinnae) alternate; simple, to 15x7mm; edge with low round-teeth, basal tooth prominent; without stalk, a narrow-attachment. SORI round, terminal on veinlet, cover (=indusium) heart-shaped.
