General Information

COMMON NAMES: Red Powderpuff, Fairy Duster, Tassel Flower

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Bolivia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group - rare; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Spreading shrub or small tree, to 6m. LEAVES to 45cm; divided into 2 pairs pinnae each to 20cm; leaflets 3-9 pairs per pinna, to 8cm, lance-like to oval, glossy above dull below. FLOWERS many in cluster forming spiky ball; each with filaments c.25, 25mm long, base white, top vivid red. FRUIT pod (not seen).
