General Information

COMMON NAMES: Calopo

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE tropical America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands, horticultural

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Cover; Weed - serious

KEY FEATURES: Perennial climbing herb or vine. STEMS hairy, round. LEAVES alternate, trifoliolate, stipules leaf-like, very small, 3mm; stalk to 15cm, ribbed, hairy; LEAFLETS soft, hairy; laterals asymmetrical, to 11x9cm, stalk short with 1 slender stipel; central symmetical rhomboid, to 13x9cm, stalk 3cm with 2 slender stipels at outer end. FLOWERS short clusters of 2-7, small, 7mm long, blue with yellow centre. FT hairy linear pod 40x5mm, 4-8 seeds.
