General Information

COMMON NAMES: Polynesian Celtis

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Mokopine? (AT), Raumariki (MK), Mokopine (MT)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Southeast Polynesia (Cooks - French Polynesia)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of se.Polynesia; Land, mountains (++) (Ridge forest and Slope forest)

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: adornment

KEY FEATURES: A small tree to 5m. LEAVES alternate; glossy green; broad-oval with a pointed tip; three conspicuous veins from the base; brittle; fragrant when bruised; to 12x6cm [LxW]. FLOWERS several arising from leaf bases; tiny. FRUIT- 5mmØ, near-round, persistent style.
