General Information

COMMON NAMES: Golden Cane Palm, Cane Palm, Golden-fruited Palm, Yellow Palm, Areca Palm, Butterfly Palm, Yellow Butterfly Palm, Golden Yellow Palm, Bamboo Palm, Golden Feather Palm; German Goldblattpalme

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Madagascar

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves

KEY FEATURES: Clustered, stems 10mx12cm, with leaves to 2m. Leaflets to 60 on each side, regularly spaced and in one plane. Sheaths and petioles yellow-green. Fruit ovoid, to 20mm long,violet-black.
