SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Erect shrub to 2m. Stems 3-4 sides, leaves opposite or in 3s, to 20x8cm. Flowers blue-violet in terminal clusters; 3cm wide; petals 4 pale blue and flat, 1 violet-blue and spoon-like; filament and anthers long and curved. Easily recognised.

IDENTIFICATION: ERECT SHRUB to 2m. STEMS purplish; angular, 3-4 sided. LEAVES opposite or in 3s; oval, to 20x8cm; dark-green; toothed on the outer half. FLOWERS terminal clusters; corolla 25mm wide, 5-lobed (upper 4 pale blue, flat; lower1 violet-blue, spoon-like); filaments and anthers long, curved.
