General Information

COMMON NAMES: Rarotonga Cyrtandra

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Rarotonga)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1-island; S.Group only (Rarotonga only); Land, mountains (++)

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Globally endangered (seriously)

KEY FEATURES: Fleshy shrub to 1.5m. LEAVES opposite, adjacent pairs at right angles; asymmetric, elliptic, to 20x10cm, glossy green, teeth small and round, tip sharp, base asymmetric; stalk 2cmL, thick. FLOWERS axillary clusters, stalk, to 5cm, stalklets to 1cm; calyx lobes 4, slender, to 1cm, soon lost; corolla white, tube with asymmetrical face 1.5cmØ with 5 round lobes. FRUIT ovoid, 2x1cm(LxØ), ripens pink. SEEDS minute.
