General Information

COMMON NAMES: Sealing-wax Palm, Lipstick Palm, Maharajah Palm; German Rotstielpalme, Siegellackpalme

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Malaysia - Indonesia.

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental palm

KEY FEATURES: Slender palm to 10m. FORM multiple trunks in cluster. TRUNK slender, ~10cmØ. LEAVES to 1.5m; arching; not ragged; leaflets 50 pairs; LEAF-STALKS orange-red to scarlet; encircling trunk before constricting below leaflets. LEAFLETS grey-blue below, to 45x4cm. FRUIT oval, black,~2cm long.
