General Information

COMMON NAMES: Longan, Lungen, Dragon's Eye

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE s.China - Malaysia - Indonesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group only (rare); Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 0+)

KEY FEATURES: Tree to 8m. LEAVES compound, to 25cmL. LEAFLETS 3-5 opposite-pairs, long-oval, 12x4cm, above dark glossy green, below dull pale green, tip round ±notch; stalk 1cm. FLOWER in open clusters; cream-white, very small. FRUIT round, 3cmØ, dull yellow-brown; flesh thin, translucent, sweet; seed large, black.
