General Information

COMMON NAMES: Wide-leaf Dracaena, Dracaena, Wide-leaf Pleomele, Corn Plant, Green Corn-plant

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE w.Africa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent (c.1970), Not naturalised; S.Group - common; N.Group rare; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves, fragrant flowers

KEY FEATURES: Upright shrub to 6m, with large terminal clusters of strap-like leaves. LEAVES to 100x10cm, glossy green; some cvs. with pale centre or edges. FLOWERS ball-like clusters along ± arching stalk to 80cm; petals purple outside, white inside; anthers yellow; highly fragrant. FRUIT almost-round, large, to 15x10mm, pale orange.
