Scientific Taxonomy

Elaphoglossum savaiense (Bak.)
SYNONYMS: Acrostichum gorgoneum [TC - misID]; Ephoglossum sp. [GW]; Elaphoglossum gorgoneum [mis-ID]; Elaphoglossum savaiiense [misspelling]

TAXONOMY: PLANTAE; PTERIDOPHYTA (=Pterophyta); Aspidiales; LOMARIOPSIDACEAE. COMMENT: Alan R. Smith notes on the Berkeley University Moorea Digitial Flora Project: Copeland called this Elaphoglossum gorgoneum, but that species is a synonym of the Hawaiian endemic Elaphoglossum aemulum (as indicated by Palmer and others). The most applicable name to Society Islands material is Elaphoglossum savaiense (type from Samoa).
