GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Colombia - Venezuela; EXOTIC worldwide

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves and flowers (3+)

KEY FEATURES: Creeping herb. LEAVES oval, to 10x7cm, green and broadly silvered along vein; teeth rounded. FLOWERS 2-4 on long hairy stalk, red, tube with flat face, 2cmØ; lobes 5, round; stamens 4-5 with anthers, hidden within tube; style with 2 lobes. Various cvs and hybrids.

IDENTIFICATION: Creeping hairy perennial. STOLONS to 50cm, hairy. LEAVES clustered, opposite, succulent, oval, to 10x7cm, green with silver blotching along midrib and veins; teeth rounded. FLOWERS in axils, 2-4 on long hairy stalk, red; corolla a tube and a flat face (2cmØ) with 5 rounded lobes; stamens 4-5 with anthers, hidden within tube; style with 2 lobes at tip. Several cvs and hybrids.
