General Information

COMMON NAMES: Shower-of-Gold Shrub

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Mexico - Central America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group only (RR only - occassional); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Erect shrub to 2.5m. LEAVES papery, matt green, narrow-oval, to 5x2cm, edges smooth; base tapering with two projections. FLOWERS terminal clusters, 20-30; to 20mmØ, 5 yellow oval petals; STYLES 3; stamens 10, stalks/filaments yellow turning red. FRUIT 6mmØ, 3-lobed.

SIMILAR SPECIES: See under Bagnit Vine (Tristellateia australasiae), including differences of Brazilian Golden Vine (Stigmaphyllon ciliatum) not presently recorded in Cook Islands.
