TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tiamu (AT)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE se.Asia - Malesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group - rare; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 1+)

KEY FEATURES: Evergreen tree to 10m. LEAVES opposite, thick, leathery, oval to 25x10cm, dark green, many parallel lateral veins. FLOWERS terminal 1-2, 5cmØ, rose-pink to yellow; sepals and petals 4 each. FRUIT purple-black, smooth, depessed-globose, 8cmØ; 5-7 segments of edible white pulp (=aril) each with a seed.. NOTE: Tree to 10m; leaves oval leathery to 25x10cm. Flowers terminal 1-2; 5cmØ; petals 4 yellow to pink. Fruit smooth, purple-black, depressed-globose, 8cmØ, 5-8 segments of edible white pulp, each with a seed.
