TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tiare ‘Aka‘ipo‘ipo (AT), Wax Vine ??? (AK), Tiale Akāu (TS), Tiare Akāu (TW); Other Polynesian - Fue Selelā (SAM)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE ne.Australia - Tonga - Samoa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Woody vine. LEAVES opposite, wide-oval to round, xxcmØ, glossy dark green, tip w/wo notch. FLOWERS spherical cluster; each on a stalk; petals 5, white with purple base; style with 5 lobes, white. FRUIT slender pod with a groove on one side, to 15x1cm, ripens brown and splits. SEEDS numerous, small, slender, to 5mm, with silky filaments to 20mm.
