COMMON NAMES: Star Jasmine

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pītate (RR), Pitate Falāni (TS), Pitate Farāni (TW); Other Polynesian - Pikake [HAW, meaning peacock]

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE India; EXOTIC very early to China, later circumtropical

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Sprawling shrub/vine to 2m. BRANCHLETS downy. LEAVES opposite, simple, oval, to 6x4cm, blunt or subcordate base, topside w/wo hairs, underside hairy; stalk short. FLOWERS in tight clusters; fragrant at night; calyx lobes slender, downy, equal or longer than tube; corolla tube greenish, to 25mm; petals/lobes 4-9, white, to 20mm.
