General Information

COMMON NAMES: Pink Plume-Flower, Brazilian Plume, Plume Flower, Plume Plant, Flamingo Plant, Paradise Plant, King's Crown

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Semi-Naturalised; Land, lowlands - inland valleys

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers; Invasive - moderate (Rarotonga)

KEY FEATURES: A shrub to 2m with terminal clusters of pink flowers protruding from among large green bracts. LEAVES opposite, oval, to 25cm, glossy green above, tinged purple beneath. FLOWERS plume-shaped terminal cluster; bracts green to 2cm; corolla pink to purple-red, 5cm.
