General Information

COMMON NAMES: Hyacinth Bean, Dolichos Bean, Bonavist Bean, Bonaviste Bean, Lablab Bean, Egyptian Bean, Lubia Bean, Seim Bean

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Africa - Asia - Malesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Manure?; Weed - minor

KEY FEATURES: A smooth vine to about 5m with large trifoliolate leaves. FVS alternate, 3-LFTS, wide-oval, 15x15cm, central LFT stalked. FLOWERS axial, erect raceme, ±15cm. FL whitish to pinkish, 20mm long, keel bent up to form a right-angle. FT flat pod, 12x2cm, 3-5 seeds. SEEDS oval, white or red or black, 10mm long, 5mmØ, edible when cooked (green or ripe).
