General Information

COMMON NAMES: Crape Myrtle Shrub, Crepe Myrtle-Shrub ["crape" is British English of French "crepe"], Chinese Crape Myrtle, Chinese Crêpe Myrtle, Queen-of-flowers, Christmas Bush; German Indische Lagerstroemie

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Himalayas - China - se.Asia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: SHRUB to 3m. LEAVES mostly opposite, oval to oblong, to 5cm length. FLOWERS terminal clusters; pink, white or purple; to 3cmØ; petals wrinkled; stamens long golden (~40); buds smooth, glossy. FRUIT dry-capsule, oval, to 1.5cm.
