General Information

COMMON NAMES: South Pacific Maytenus

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Fiji - Societies - Tuamotus

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Land, mountains (+++)

KEY FEATURES: Sprawling shrub, to 3m. Young stems red. LEAVES alternate, mainly terminal clusters, oval to wide-oval, to 10x6cm, glossy green, tip round w/wo notch, base tapering, edge with densely small-toothed; stalk to 1cm, red. FLOWERS in stalked axillary clusters; unisexual; small with white petals, 7mmØ. FRUIT ovoid, to 10x7mm, ripening red and splitting open. SEEDS few, 5x4mm.
