General Information

COMMON NAMES: Four-o'clock Flower, Marvel of Peru, Beauty-of-the-Night, False Jalap; German Wunderblume

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tiare Moe (RR AT MK MT AK PL), ‘Ura‘ura (MG), Tiare Numero (MH RK); Other Polynesian - Peteli (SAM)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Peru

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Medicine, Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: A small shrub to 1m. LEAVES opposite; narrow heart-shaped, to 15x9cm. FLOWERS terminal clusters; variously coloured, including striped or mottled, often brilliant pink; to 5cm long; tubular expanding to a broad, wavy, shallowly 5-lobed, face; anthers emergent from tube.
