TRADITIONAL NAMES: Ngaio (MG)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Mangaia, Miti‘āro)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 2-3-island; Land

KEY FEATURES: Erect shrub to 3m. LEAVES alternate, large to small, from 7x2cm to XXXXXX, oval, glossy, obvious midrib, obscure lateral veins; tip sharp, base tapering, edge smooth or with very low teeth; stalk to 1cm. FLOWERS axillary, 1-2, funnel with 5 round lobes, total 12mmØ, white with fine spots maroon to yellow, 4 protruding anthers.
