General Information

COMMON NAMES: Triangle Palm, Decary Palm; German Dreieckspalme

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Madagascar

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental leaves

KEY FEATURES: To 10m, stout (±25cm), solitary; blue-green leaves in three ranks with wide, overlapping sheaths. Leaves to 5m, pinnate, >80 leaflets per side, 50-100cm long, in a regular series in one plane, upward pointing, curved near the tip. Basal 2-4 leaflets trailing, 2-3m in length.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Lucuba Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lucubensis) which also has leaves in three ranks with overlapping sheaths, but it differs in having leaflets in groups and in several planes.
