TAXONOMY: PLANTAE; ANTHOPHYTA (=Angiospermae); MAGNOLIOPSIDA (=Dicotyledones); ASTERIDAE; Lamiales; LAMIACEAE
GENERAL NOTE: Grows and treated as a weed in Fiji (AC Smith). In India Sacred Basil is not often used as a culinary herb, but it is commonly used in a religious context.
