General Information

COMMON NAMES: Ventricose Morning-glory

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE tropical America; EXOTIC EXOTIC ? - Micronesia, Samoa/Tonga - Cooks - ?

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Weed - moderate

KEY FEATURES: Prostrate or scrambling vine. STEMS round without wings. LEAVES alternate, variable heart-shaped, to 30x30cm, tip obtuse with slender projection; surface hairless to hairy. FLOWER in axillary clusters of 3-7 on stalk to 15cm; bracts, 2, hairy, to 5cm long, soon shed; sepals, 5, glossy, to 4cm long; corolla white, funnel-like spreading to 5cmØ. FRUIT translucent capsule with 2-4 cells, each with one seed; bracketed by papery sepals. SEEDS black, 10mmØ.
