COMMON NAMES: Purple Passionfruit, Passionfruit, Purple Granadilla; German Maracuja, Purpur Granadilla,; French Passiflore, Grenadilla Douce

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pārapōtini Papa‘ā (RR AT MK MT AK), Ka‘atene Papa‘ā / Kātinga Papa‘ā (MG); Other Polynesian - Pāsio (SAM)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Brazil

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 3+); Invasive - moderate

KEY FEATURES: Climbing vine. STEM obtuse-angled. LEAVES alternate, wide-oval to deeply 3-lobed, to 18x25cm(LxW), glossy green, edge toothed; stalk to 7cm with 2 round knob to 2mmØ, stipules narrow, to 1cmL. FLOWERS to 8cmØ with mainly white. FRUIT (=berry) wide-ovoid, to 9x8cm(LxØ), mature yellow, greenish, reddish, or purplish, ±pale speckles; SEEDS many with succulent aril. Several cvs.
