COMMON NAMES: Hard Passionfruit, Sweet Calabash, Sweetcup, Conch Apple; German Passionsblume; French Pomme calabas

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pārapōtini ‘Enua (RR AT AK), Ka‘atene Māori / Kātinga Māori (MG), Pārapōtini Māori / Pārapōtini ‘Enua (MK), Pārapōtini Māori (MT)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE tropical America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; Land, lowlands - mountains (+++)

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 3+), Medicine; Invasive - serious

KEY FEATURES: Slender, high-climbing vine to 20m. LEAVES alternate, oval, to 25x12cm, glossy green, base blunt, tip sharp; stalk with 2 glands; axillary tendril long and undivided. FLOWER 8cmØ; bracts large, wide-triangular, pale green; sepals, petals, stamens and style - see photo. FRUIT round, 4cmØ, hard, ripens purplish; pulp sweet.
