General Information

COMMON NAMES: Giant Granadilla; German Königs-Granadilla

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pārapōtini (RR TW), Pāpatīni (MG AK), Kūkuma (AT), Maratini (MK MT), Pālapōtini (TS)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE tropical America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised, occasionally naturalised.; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 1+)

KEY FEATURES: Climbing vine. STEM 4-winged. LEAVES alternate, wide-ovate, to 10x14cm. glossy green, base lobed; stalk with 4-6 round knobs to 2mmØ, stipules wide-oval, to 4cmL. FLOWERS to 8cmØ with white and purple. FRUIT (=berry) oblong, to 30x20cm(LxØ), often 3-grooved, matures green-yellow, edible.
