Scientific Taxonomy

Pouteria grayana (St.John 1934)
SYNONYMS: Planchonella grayana; Planchonella costata var. vitiensis; Sideroxylon sp. [sensu GW]; Brassia sp. [sensu TC]

TAXONOMY: PLANTAE; ANTHOPHYTA (=Angiospermae); MAGNOLIOPSIDA (=Dicotyledones); DILLENIIDAE; Ebenales; SAPOTACEAE. COMMENT: Sapota vitiensis {A.Gray 1862} is original name but Planchonella vitiensis because Lucuma vitiensis was used for the same species by Gillespie 1930. St.John's new name and description of 1934 is accepted here. [G.McC 6/2005]

BIODIVERSITY: Locally endangered. Comment: Endangered and declining on Mangaia. No trees known, 5/2000 (Peter Ngatokorua, 5/2000).
