General Information

COMMON NAMES: Rarotonga Psychotria

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Rarotonga)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1-island; Land, mountains (++)

KEY FEATURES: A small shrub to 2m. STEMS black and brittle. LEAVES in terminal clusters, opposite, simple; glossy green both sides; oval, to 9x3cm, widest near the centre, tapering to sharp tip and base, edge smooth; stalk 1cm. FLOWERS axillary, usually 3 per stalk; each 15mmØ; white, tube (1cm long) with 5 narrow petals to 7x2mm. FRUITS ovoid, to10x5mm, ripen red.
