GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Sthn.USA - Chile - Hawai‘i - Easter Is. - Cooks

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Land, lowlands

KEY FEATURES: A tall bulrush common in the swamps of Mangaia and ‘Ātiu. It is a native of the Americas which spread naturally into Eastern Polynesia as far as the Cook Islands.

GENERAL NOTE: The name Bulrush is probably derived from bole+rush, where bole means "stem" or "trunk", hence "trunked sedge". It is less likely to be derived from the word "bull".
