GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Rarotonga)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1-island; S.Group only (Rarotonga only); Land, mountains (+); Cloud Forest

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Globally endangered (seriously)

KEY FEATURES: Erect shrub to 1.5m. LEAVES in terminal clusters, alternate; narrow-oblong, to 20x7cm, glossy green; edge with many small sharp teeth; tip sharp, base tapering; stalk to 3cm. FLOWERS axillary, solitary; stalk 3cm; sepals green spine-like; corolla green, tube (2cm) with face (4cmØ) of 5 slender lobes, unevenly spaced.

SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
BIODIVERSITY: Globally endangered (seriously). Comment: Known from a few plants at mid-elevation to high elevation in inland Rarotonga.

GENERAL NOTE: The genus Sclerotheca contains 4-5 species and is endemic to Southeast Polynesia (Rarotonga - 1 species, Rapa, Tahiti, and Marquesas).
