General Information

COMMON NAMES: Giant Tephrosia

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pī (MK), Pī Maniva (MT)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE India

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group only (makatea islands only - very common); Land, lowlands, horticultural

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Manure; Weed - minor

KEY FEATURES: Bushy shrub to 3m. LEAVES alternate, compound odd-pinnate; LEAFLETS 8-12pairs+1, lance-like, to 5cm, grey-green, silky beneath, tip sharp. FLOWERS clusters terminal and upper axils, white, 3cm long. FRUIT pod, to 10cm.
