General Information

COMMON NAMES: Teratophyllum wilkesianum

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group only - RR only, uncommon; Land, mountains (++)

KEY FEATURES: Climbing fern. Root (=rhizome) creeping and climbing. Sterile fronds of 2 types. STERILE JUVENILE FRONDS (=bathyphylls), 2x ladderlike divided; leaflets, small, 15x6mm, edge with sharp teeth; frond-stalk 20cm, without hairs. STERILE MATURE FRONDS (=acrophylls), 1x ladderlike divided, leaflets large, to 120x20mm, lancelike, tip sharp, edge smooth, veins NOT fused distally; stalk 1cm. FERTILE FROND leaflets narrow and linear, sporangia cover underside.
