SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Weed - minor. Comments: A woody weed in fallow and waste areas. Localised.
GENERAL NOTE: This plant was probably an ancient Polynesian introduction as it was recorded by Parkinson in Tahiti in 1969 where he noted that it was called "peereepeeree" (=Piripiri) and its bark was used to make loinclothes (maro) and a sort of mat. Smith concludes that it was an aboriginal introduction into Fiji.
