General Information

COMMON NAMES: Brown-vase Anemone

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE s.Japan - French Polynesia - Hawai‘i - w.Central America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: A vase-shaped anemone with a height and crown diameter of 8cm, and a contricted mid-column of 1-2cm. About 100 tentacles, with innermost ones about 2x the oral diameter and outermost half as long. The are smooth and continuously taper to a sharp tip. usually uniformly dark brown, with white around th mouth, and without banding on the tentacles. A dwarf form is half the size, and brown with white flecks. The two forms often live together.
